How does the CEREC® process work? First, there’s an exam to see if it’s right for you. If it is, the dentist will remove decay and weakened tooth tissue in order to prepare the area. Then a 3-D image of the tooth area is taken using a digital camera scan. This is an “optical impression,” which means the patient doesn’t have to do the traditional messy impression. Technology transforms the digital image into a 3-D virtual model of the prepared tooth. A milling unit creates the custom restoration for the tooth, matching the color needed. Finally, the dentist places the restoration, ensuring a good fit and bite. Polished and bonded, the restoration is put into place without the patient having to wear any temporary restoration(s)! And… no return visit is necessary.
