Root Canals
WELCOME TO CROWLEY FAMILY DENTAL!
Root Canals
If you were to look inside your tooth toward the bottom you’d find the “root canal.
Next time you’re at the dentist’s office and X-rays are taken, ask Dr. Crowley to point it out and show you…
The root canal is actually a chamber inside your tooth. It’s where cells, pulp, nerves and more converge.
Sometimes damage occurs in the root canal– inflammation and infection and weakness need a dentist’s attention. If and when something is wrong in this sensitive area, you’ll feel terrible toothache pain. You will need to “have a root canal” done by Dr. Crowley. You want to take care of this in a timely manner so as not to let the problem spread to the gums. When you “get a root canal,” you stop the pain and make it so you don’t have to have the tooth surgically removed.
What does a root canal involve? Typically, Dr. Crowley removes inflamed or infected pulp. Then he cleans out the rest of the tooth and disinfects it.
After that, the tooth gets filled and sealed using a rubber-like material. Finally, the tooth is restored to look and feel “normal” again using a filling and/or crown for added protection.
Did you know root canal procedures are painless? Pain, though, does come from the infection in the tooth. Therefore, a local anesthetic can be used to numb the tooth and surrounding area such that pain is minimized during the procedure.
There’s no need to be terrified of “getting a root canal” done at Crowley Family Dental of Sandusky. When you visit, you’ll be put at ease. The procedure will be explained so there are no surprises. And, ultimately, after the root canal treatment is finished, you will feel much better, and that’s a worthy goal!
